Bathtub chip repair. From hammers dropping into tubs, to soap dishes and towel bars falling off the wall, chips can happen in homes under construction, in homes just built, and in homes lived in for years! We've been repairing chips in bathtubs for homebuilders and homeowners across DFW for over four decades, making bathtub chip repair our specialty!
Above all, remember this: A professional bathtub chip repair cannot be achieved with Do-It-Yourself products. Only a professional who has decades of chip repair experience can repair a tub and match the color to the point that you may not even be able to tell where the damage was.
Jim has mastered the art of bathtub chip repair in his 45 years of using this skill, and continues to be meticulous in every step of his work - truly an artist in his chip repair skills (read testimonials)!
Location Matters
It may surprise you to know that if damage is located below the water line, there's no way to predict how long a repair may last. The reason is because repairs have exposed edges all the way around them which make them susceptible to lifting when under water, especially when the damage is located near the drain area where the water is coming out hard from the tub spout above.
If the damage is located at the opposite end of the plumbing wall, or if the tub is used mostly for showering vs. bathing, repairs made below the water line will have a better chance of holding, but there is still no guarantee. Repairs made on damage that is located above the water line have the best chance of holding.
It Takes an Expert
In most cases, professional chip repair means you won't be able to see the damage after the repair, but it takes years of experience to consistently achieve that kind of end result.
There are a lot of steps to professional chip repair. This kind of precision specialty repair work requires an expert in color matching, even for white tubs, because there are many shades of white.
Color matching is a big deal. Did you know white tubs can have a gray, brown, or even yellow hue to them? Thankfully, Jim has a great eye for color. It enables him to start out with a pure white color, then tint it on-site to match (as closely as is possible) the color of the tub he is repairing.
The last step in chip repair requires an airbrush expert with a light and steady hand. After getting the color matched, Jim sprays the finish onto the repaired damaged area with a Paasche air brush, then carefully feathers it in to blend with the surrounding surface.
